Perennial Fertility Festivals & Rites including Satirized Spoofs of Ritual Lashings of Fecund Females to Urge Pregnancy

Venus is the gorgeous Goddess of love, sex, beauty, and fertility that continues to be cherished to this day by loyal citizens of the Roman Empire. Her worship survives in beauty magazines, feature films, or atavistic and modern works of art which include famous paintings or sublime statuary. Statues representing Venus are so beautiful and famous, that some idol-smashers are angered by jealousy to the point, that they occasionally take sledgehammers to her iconic images meaning to destroy that which they think weakens them to the point of feeling agonizing pangs of sinful envy. Even so, other worshipers of the Goddess of Love fall to their knees in eternally perpetual worship, found to be writing poetry or creating the very icons, imagery, or emblems which drive others to destroy these heavenly objects of adoration. The cycle of life is thus maintained by both of these seemingly opposing types of idolizers. One destined to endless madness to break the Goddess apart in trying to soothe his own feelings of inadequacy, the other sentenced to a life of loving her from afar with no real hope of ever becoming a God capable of wooing her into his arms.

While St. Valentine's Day is a leftover from Lupercalia's glorification of the Goddess Venus, and though the rituals of her followers may have become tamer over the centuries, she is even now, very much a living Goddess. Celebrations of the ancient Romans were headier and most probably more amusing! Festivals were held annually in the ancient city of Roma on February 15th to perform a ritual scourging of each and every fertile woman of childbearing age in the eternal city for the purpose of inciting her body to become pregnant with child. Luperci Priests held the lashes, straps, or scourges in their hands to perform teasing caricatures of lampooning public floggings of the participating women.
