During the Renaissance, a young man named Filippo Bruno was accepted into the Dominican Order in the year 1548. Upon becoming a Dominican Friar, he changed his name to Giordano. Although Giordano was a mathematician, his interests and studies ran towards the metaphysical instead of the dogmatic. He voraciously consumed learning about the subjects of cosmology, philosophy, hermeticism, reincarnation, and organic sorcery. Bruno developed the Heliocentric theory of Copernicus to a vastly expansive new level. He postulated that the universe had no center at all and no finite boarders. Furthermore, he stated that the universe was filled with a boundless number of stars and planets. Bruno also thought that it was feasible that the ethereal and physical kingdoms were intimately joined. It is said that Giordano Bruno's theories were forerunners to the contemporary multiverse theory. Bruno's detention in prison, trial by the inquisition, and death at the hand of the executioner took place in Rome taking seven years to conclude. He was charged with having beliefs that went against many of the core teachings of the Catholic Church and for verbalizing ideas that were at odds with the judgments of the Catholic clergy. Adding to these accusations were those of his scientific ideations about the nature of the universe, the carnality of man, sorceries, and cleromancy. Giordano Bruno's execution took place on February 17, 1600, in a market square in Rome. He was stripped of his clothes, and his tongue was bound so that he could not speak any of his evil blasphemies. He was then put to death by fire and was still alive when his body was consumed by the flames. After his burning while tied to the stake, the Inquisitors had his ashes tossed into a nearby river named the Tiber.
